Was a 13 year wait worth it? Hell yeah! I used to love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series as a kid and i still do. IMAGI studio has come out with a brand new TMNT that delivers what could be the movie that everyone has waited for so long. The film represents the light-hearted aspects of the 1980’s cartoon, and the dark and gritty of the original series that started it all.
The biggest + in the movie is the animation. The level of detailing is unsurpassed and completely amazing. everything from backgrounds, characters, textures and lighting is awesome. especially the sequence between Leonardo and Raphael in the rain….OMG the detailing was mind blowing. The general look and design was crisp. The Turtles look different and new and so does Splinter, Casey and April. Though April ‘O Neal looks more like Lara Croft, and Casey’s character had lost the edge he is not the vigilante he used to be. I was also particularly impressed with the design of Karai and the foot ninjas.
There’s not much of a plot in the new TMNT, but it concentrates on the inner conflict among the turtle brothers. The voice acting was good too, but Splinter’s voice is not the same and it took some time getting used to the new voice. I’m more used to the soft voiced Splinter and not the new raspy one. The villain is not Shredder anymore but that’s not what this movie is all about. Michelangelo and Donatello do not get much screen time as the movie is more about Ralph and Leo.
The background score is excellent, and gets your adrenaline pumping especially in Ralph’s intro and the rooftop sequence.Go watch the movie if you are a TMNT fan or a fan of CG. Its worth it…AGAIN watch out for the rooftop fight sequence.
